About the Item

Rare complete set of antique Mason's Ashworth Ironstone Chinoiserie pattern hand enameled and transfer decorated plates in excellent condition England, 1862-1880 Vibrant, joyful colors of orange, mulberry, cobalt blue, green, yellow, pink and russet compose an artful paisley pattern border with floral elements, surrounding a central motif of Chinoiserie style Bird of Paradise perched on a twisted branch of oversize peony flowers. Each piece with finely hand enameled details on cobalt blue transfer decorated pattern. The hand painted raised enameling is slightly different on each plate and gives this set a distinctive hand crafted appearance. Each plate is marked by the enameler in different enamel colors and numbered. This rare Ashworth pattern has an unusual Neo-Gothic border in cobalt blue surrounding the central mofit. Beautiful for display and dining. A footed serving compote in the same pattern is available for purchase- please see images. Diameter of each plate: 8.25 inch Marks: impressed Ashworths mark used between 1862 and 1880, numbered, underglazed blue cresent mark Condition: Exceptionally Good, light surface wear to the enameling commensurate with age. It is quite miraculous to find a complete set of 12 dishes, approximately 150 years old in such remarkable condition.
