About the Item

A rare antique English, Brampton salt glazed dog bowl molded with setter like dogs and leaves and dating from the mid 19th century or possibly slightly earlier. The eight sided stoneware bowl is of rectangular shape and stands raised on four corner feet with raised scroll edges in between. The side and end panels of the bowl are relief molded with a setter dog lying in a garden to two sides and with leaf designs to the corner and end panels. The bowl has a recessed container and is decorated in a natural salt glazed finish with some painted brown patch work to the body of the dogs. The dog bowl is not marked. Provenance: from the Chapman Collection, Debden Manor. The dog bowl is offered in good overall condition however has a break to one leg which has been reattached and could be easily restored if required.
