About the Item

Flower Wall Stand by Delphin Massier, Vallauris, France, Late 19th Century. Exceptional late 19th-century French Art Pottery flower wall stand by Delphin Massier, produced in Vallauris, on the Côte d’Azur. Crafted in earthenware, this decorative wall piece exemplifies Massier’s refined approach to ornamental ceramics and his contribution to the emergence of artistic ceramics in southern France. This model belongs to a documented line of Delphin Massier productions and is illustrated in the reference book “Massier, L’introduction de la céramique artistique de la Côte d’Azur”, page 80 (see last photo). Such documented examples are highly sought after by collectors of 19th-century French ceramics, Vallauris pottery, and Art Nouveau–era decorative arts. Designed as a wall-mounted flower holder or decorative stand, the piece reflects the period’s fascination with natural forms and functional ornamentation. Its sculptural presence and historical importance make it an excellent addition to both antique pottery collections and refined interior wall displays. Dimensions: Diameter: 6.9 in. (17.5 cm) Depth: 2.6 in. (6.5 cm) Origin: Vallauris, France Period: Late 19th Century Material: Earthenware About Delphin Massier (1836–1907) Delphin Massier was one of the most influential ceramic artists in Vallauris, France, and a key figure in the development of art pottery on the French Riviera during the late 19th century. A member of the renowned Massier family of ceramists, he played a decisive role in transforming Vallauris from a center of utilitarian pottery into a hub of artistic and decorative ceramics. Massier is best known for his innovative glazing techniques, richly modeled forms, and his ability to merge traditional craftsmanship with artistic ambition. His work bridges historicist decoration and early Art Nouveau sensibilities, often incorporating floral, vegetal, and ornamental motifs. Today, Delphin Massier’s ceramics are represented in museums and prestigious private collections and are highly valued on the international antiques market.
