About the Item
This most impressive large twin handled table centrepiece is stunning in its fine hand painted detail. It was made in France at the Gien Faience Pottery Works and bears the early factory mark for 1871 – 1875 a time when the quality of the decoration was at its best from this factory. This piece is profusely hand painted in a classical style with foliate boarders, classical scrolls, gods, cherubs, urns, beasts and an intricate coat of arms in a restrictive palette of white, blue and burnt yellow. This beautiful piece is fully decorated on both the inside and the outside. There are two lifting handles, one on each side which are naturally ribbed and terminated on each side of the dish with a pair of moulded clam shells. All are in very good condition with no restoration. French, circa 1875
