About the Item
This beautifully proportioned vessel features a softly rounded body and a stepped lid, entirely wheel-thrown and finished with a rich, subtly variegated glaze.
The surface displays layered horizontal bands in shades of deep blue, turquoise, and cream, with natural kiln variations and iron speckling that give the piece great depth and character. The glaze has a luminous, tactile quality typical of French post-war studio ceramics.
The form and size suggest a utilitarian origin—possibly a honey jar or storage pot—yet the object stands equally well as a sculptural decorative piece. Signed beneath the base, though the signature remains difficult to decipher.
A fine example of French studio pottery from the post-war period, reflecting the renewed interest in craftsmanship, material honesty, and everyday forms elevated through glaze and proportion.
