About the Item

This is a white porcelain bowl made in Korea around the 15-16th century. This period is known as the Joseon Dynasty (15th-19th centuries). The 15-16th century corresponds to the first half. This tea bowl manufacturing method is called ``Muji-Hakeme-Chawan'' in Japan. "Muji" = Plain "Hakeme" = brush pattern "Chawan" = tea bowl The method for making this bowl is to use gray clay and first apply white makeup by dissolving white clay in water. Then, it is coated with a transparent glaze and fired. There are two ways to apply white makeup: one is to use a brush to apply white makeup, and the other is to soak it in white mud. This tea bowl uses the latter method. Therefore, it is called "Muji-Hakeme". Tea bowls made using this method were only made in the first half of the Joseon Dynasty. Although it is an excavated product, the luster of the glaze remains and the skin has a sense of transparency. Fine cracks are called kan-nyu, a phenomenon caused by the shrinkage of the glaze. However, these cracks are only superficial cracks in the glaze and are not cracks in the pottery itself. On the other hand, as you can see in the photo, the cracked part has been kintsugi. There is also a small crack in the red rounded part. There is no splitting. Of course, it will not leak water. If you leave the liquid in it for a long time, the water will penetrate and the stain will become darker, resulting in an image like the one at the end. However, once it dries, it will return to its original state. This kind of change is also one of the attractions. By drinking tea for a long time, fantastic beautiful spots are born from such cracks and "kan-nyu". A dedicated storage wooden box is included. This is a beautiful item that I highly recommend.
