About the Item

Large glazed terracotta jug or jar from the south of France, dating from the late 19th century. It comes from the Lauragais region around Castelnaudary in south-western France. The glaze work is particularly interesting and attractive with its drips all around. This gives it a rather unusual decoration that is uncommon in this type of pottery. These containers were used in Mediterranean regions to store and serve liquids such as water, oil, wine or vinegar. The green glaze adds a decorative quality, but by covering the entire interior of the piece, it also makes it waterproof. The contrast between the natural terracotta and the green glaze gives it a particularly decorative appearance. Unfortunately, there is a small accident at the top of the neck visible on one side (1.5 cm/0.6 inch). Please do not hesitate to provide me with your postcode and country so that I can look into sending it by post or courier.
