About the Item
A vintage two-handled Edwardian style ironstone pottery milk pail printed with the words 'Pure Milk' in navy above a transferware graphic of a bucolic English scene. It has a banded design to the ironstone with nicely molded handles applied to each side of the pail. The underside has a crown mark under which reads "Made in England".
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, "Pure Milk" pails were often used commercially in grocery stores or dairies. Pure milk was the milk that had been separated from the cream. Another pail would have been nearby to hold the "Cream". Yet another pail would contain "New Milk" ie the milk prior to cream separation.

10.5"h x 14"dia. and 16.5"w with handles
The base measures 8.5"dia.
Condition:
Good. No chips observed. There is some minor crazing to the underside and interior base.
