About the Item

This is an ironstone duo of a coffee can or cup and saucer in a rare shape, hand enameled in the Bandana pattern, made by Mason's Ironstone of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, during the late 19th century, circa 1890. This cup is potted with a rare shape, the handle being formed by pinching or folding part of the side. This chinoiserie pattern is called "Bandana" and is illustrated on various pieces on page 169 of Geoffrey Godden's book; Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares, published by the Antique Collectors' Club. There is a Mason's round crown and banner black printed mark to the base of each piece, indicating a late 19th century date.
