About the Item
Herculaneum neo-Classical Greek Pattern blue printed dish,
Early-19th century
The Herculaneum pottery underglaze blue central pattern shows a series of images encircling an oval panel with a leafy vine. There are two main images, one with winged griffins attacking a woman in a chariot, and the other large image is of three women drawn in a chariot by five horses. To the sides are various other figures. The border has a distinctive Greek Key design with six oval panels, each with a different design of neo-classical design.
