About the Item

Signed decorative ceramic bowl by renowned American artist Waylande Gregory, created in the mid-20th century. The bowl features a luminous interior richly embellished with gold decoration, centered by a stylized foliate motif and surrounded by fine dotted and linear detailing. A white glass rim with rhythmic striping frames the composition, while a contrasting green glass foot anchors the form. Gregory’s signature confirms authorship and underscores the bowl’s significance within his postwar body of work, in which he explored expressive surface treatments, metallic inclusions, and bold color contrasts across both glass and ceramics. The painterly application of gold and the confident sculptural form exemplify his approach to decorative objects as works of art rather than purely functional vessels. An important and highly collectible example of mid-century American art glass, suitable as a sculptural centerpiece or for inclusion in a serious studio glass collection.
