Bibliography: Maison Cardeilhac (1804-1951)
Founded in 1804 by Antoine-Vital Cardeilhac, Maison Cardeilhac quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious Parisian silversmiths of the 19th century. Renowned for the quality of its carvings and its creations, both classical and innovative, it particularly excelled in the reinterpretation of the Louis XV and Rocaille styles, prized during the Second Empire and the Third Republic.
Under the successive leadership of his descendants, Cardeilhac participated in the major Universal Exhibitions in Paris (notably in 1867, 1878, 1889, and 1900), where it received several medals and distinctions. It developed refined tableware, prestigious pieces, and exceptional silverware, often commissioned by aristocratic and bourgeois clients.
In 1951, Cardeilhac was acquired by Christofle, which perpetuated some of its designs and preserved the legacy of its expertise. Today, Cardeilhac pieces are highly sought-after for their elegance and craftsmanship, illustrating the golden age of French silversmithing.
