About the Item
Cloisonné Plate from China, realized in the late 20th Century.
The decoration is created using the cloisonné technique, where fine metal wires form small compartments (cloisons) on a metal base, filled with colored enamel and fired to fuse the design.
The central motif depicts a Fenghuang (a Chinese phoenix) among peonies and morning glories, both symbols of prosperity, beauty, and renewal.
The background is filled with a continuous cloud scroll (leiwen) pattern, which is typical in traditional Chinese cloisonné.
The reverse side is turquoise enamel, with a floral wire outline on the rim — another hallmark of traditional Chinese work.
