About the Item

Iconic fruit bowl model Gaya, designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1983 for Up&Up (now part of UpGroup), a famous Tuscan marble manufacturer. The sculpture combines a Carrara marble base with a copper handle that accentuates its totemic and sculptural character. Conceived at the height of the postmodern period, Gaya reflects the radical aesthetics and formal language typical of Sottsass, founder of the Memphis group. A decorative and functional object at the same time, it is a perfect example of the dialogue between matter, function and form in 1980s Italian design.
