About the Item
A rare and stunning novelty silver and glass pepperette modelled as a Dachshund by renowned silversmith Martin Mayer (German, 1888-1939) operating from Mainz, Germany and dating from around 1900. The dog is modelled seated with a quality hollowed out polished crystal glass body and stands on a flat polished base with tail and leg features to the long-shaped body. A silver collar is applied around the neck and onto which the silver head firmly fits. The head is well molded with good detail with long flappy ears, long snout and eyes and has a series of small sprinkling holes to the top of the head. The collar bears a 900-silver quality mark along with impressed maker marks.
