An Extremely Rare Set of Six George II Scots Fiddle Pattern Teaspoons Made in Edinburgh circa 1745 by John Welsh.
The Teaspoons are modelled in the very rare Scots Fiddle Pattern, a design peculiar to Scotland. Each has a drop on the back of the bowl and the top of each stem is engraved with a set of contemporary initials in typical Scottish script. This is only the second set of such teaspoons we have offered the years. Each is marked with the distinctive Gothic maker's mark of John Welsh of Edinburgh.

The teaspoons are of a most unusual design and are modeled in the Hanoverian style. The shaped stems display a raised bearded male mask surrounded by Rococo shell and scroll details. The reverse of the stem displays foliate designs and a vacant Rococo scroll cartouche.
