About the Item

Rare and whimsical pair of handcrafted silver-plated serving utensils designed by celebrated Mexican artist Emilia Castillo, made in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico, circa 1980s. Each sculptural piece displays Castillo’s signature blend of organic inspiration and refined metalwork, featuring openwork handles adorned with three-dimensional turtle motifs—a recurring theme in her nature-inspired designs. The hammered bowls showcase the artist’s attention to texture and light, with one piece featuring a stylized cutout form that adds both visual intrigue and balance. This pair beautifully captures Castillo’s legacy as part of the Castillo silversmithing dynasty, whose innovative designs defined modern Mexican silver artistry. Hand-signed and hallmarked on the reverse: “EMILIA CASTILLO / PLATEADO / TO-85 / MEXICO M.R.” Measurements (each utensil): Length: 15.5 in. (39.4 cm) Width: 3.75 in. (9.5 cm) Height: 1 in.
