About the Item
Sterling Silver Jam or Mustard Pot with Original Cobalt Blue Liner by Thomas Cox Savory, 1828/29. The pot with hinged lid, 8 lobed sides and a lobed cobalt blue, hand blown custom fit conforming liner with ground pontil. The pot has a finely chiseled handle and the feet are cast animal paws accented with oak leaves and acorns. Thomas Cox Savory was a prominent silversmith, watchmaker, and jeweler in 19th-century London. He was part of the Savory family, a long-established family of goldsmiths in the city. The business was located primarily at Cornhill at 47 Cornhill, London, from at least 1834. With associated sterling silver spoon hallmarked William Hutton and Sons, 1912/13. William Hutton
Sons was one of the most respected and widely recognized English silversmithing firms of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Based in Sheffield, a city long associated with metalwork, the firm began with William Hutton establishing his own business in 1800. What started as a modest operation grew steadily, eventually becoming known for high-quality silver and silver plate that appealed to both the middle and upper classes during the Victorian era.
