About the Item
Made by Omar Ramsden, an Arts and Crafts two-handled navette-shaped silver tray, sitting on six paw feet and surrounded by a raised gallery. The body of the tray features spot-hand-hammered decoration and the centre is hand chased with a band of roses and thorns. A lovely silver drinks tray that could serve nicely as a tea tray too.
Apart from the hallmark on the underside, this drinks tray's base bears the engraved words "OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT" which translates as "Omar Ramsden made me", the distinctive inscription found on all his work after 1919 when his partnership with Alwyn Carr ended.
Ramsden was one of England's leading designers and makers of silverware. His silverware is among the most highly prized of all 20th century British silver. Invariably handmade in the traditions of the Arts and Crafts movement, his silver designs were always careful to combine a healthy mix of practicality, high quality and inspirational aesthetics.
Throughout his career he adhered to close attention to detail in design and best quality handmade production that ensures his silver will always be sought after.
