About the Item

This elegant antique cutlery set is housed in its original solid oak presentation canteen, lined with soft grey felt and fitted with labeled sections for each utensil. The set appears to date from the late Victorian to early 20th century (circa 1890–1920), a period when table service was highly formalized and sets were made to impress both at the table and in storage. The cutlery features cream ivorine (celluloid/early plastic) handles—a popular, refined alternative to real ivory—and silver plated (EPNS) blades and tines. The carving set and serving implements show classic Edwardian styling, with rounded handles and polished metal fittings. The oak case includes a lift-out upper tray, allowing access to the lower level. The interior labels are original and identify where each type of implement is stored—an uncommon and desirable detail. Upper Lid – Carving / Serving Implements 2 x Carving knives (long, gently curved blades) 1 x Sharpening steel 1 x Poultry/Game carving fork (two-pronged) 1 x Roast carving fork (with guard/bolt collar) Lower Level – Flatware Serving Pieces ~12 x Table/Standard spoons ~12 x Dinner forks ~12 x Dinner knives (ivorine handles) 1 x Soup ladle 1 x Pair sugar tongs 2 x Salt / Mustard spoons 2 x Knife rests (ball-finial style) Additional assorted small serving pieces (seen in compartments, likely fruit knife/spreader, cheese knife, or pastry fork) Includes small lock and original key
