This is a beautiful burr walnut cased set of silver plated and mother of pearl handled dessert knives, forks and servers, circa 1870 in date. The set is cased in a stuning burr walnut case with a central brass cartouche with the initials TB. The interiors is lined in royal purpal velvet, each knife and fork has a beautifully shaped mother of pearl handle, the silver plated fork and knives are all engraved with foliate and floral decoration. Bearing the makers mark SH Co for: Sydney Hall Co 57 Hockley Hill, Birmingham The set is design in an elegant and elaborate pattern comprises: 18 dessert knives 18 dessert forks Pair of servers It is a lovely set which is sure to enhance your dining experience. Condition: It is a complete set and is in excellent condition. Dimensions in cm: Height 7 x width 43 x depth 26 - box closed Dimensions in inches: Height 3 inches x width 1 foot, 5 inches x depth 10 inches - box closed Nacre also known as mother of pearl, is an organic-inorganic composite material produced by some molluscs as an inner shell layer; it is also what makes up the outer coating of pearls. It is strong, resilient, and iridescent. The outer layer of pearls and the inside layer of pearl oyster and freshwater pearl mussel shells are made of nacre. Both black and white nacre are and were used for design purposes. They were used as decorative motif used in cabinet making or silversmithing. The natural nacre may be artificially tinted to almost any colour. Nacre tesserae may be cut into shapes and laminated to a ceramic tile or marble base. The tesserae are hand-placed and closely sandwiched together, creating an irregular mosaic or pattern (such as a weave). The laminated material is typically about 2 mm thick. This is a gorgeous antique silver plated cruet set bearing the makers mark of the renowned silversmith Wade, Wingfield Wilkins Co and circa 1860 in date. The set comprises a beautifully decorative silver plated cruet stand holding six exquisite cut glass condiment bottles traditionally for chilli, soy, cayenne, vinegar, oil and ketchup. The antique silver cruet features a central rectangular shaped handle and body on bun feet, the six cut glass cruet bottles feature three with glass stoppers and three with silver plated lids. This is truly a special item and will attract the maximum amount of attention, the quality and craftsmanship are undeniable. Condition: In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair.
