About the Item
Very fine and rare Old English Sheffield plate hand engraved "Armorial" Dish Cover with maker's marks for Matthew Boulton and a later "married" sterling silver Rococo style handle.
This has the Maker's Marks (double stars/suns) used by the most famous Old Sheffield Plate silversmith, Matthew Boulton (Sheffield and Birmingham), circa 1800-1820, and has a later "married" Scottish STERLING SILVER handle (hallmarks for Glasgow,1829/30 and maker's mark for Robert Gray
Son).
The magnificent hand engraved Armorial crest is done on an original "let-in" shield of sterling silver (a mark of original Old Sheffield Plate) and note hand-hammered interior.
Please note all images showing the condition as being nearly pristine with some light surface abrasions but no plate loss.
