About the Item
This PAIR of superb Antique English period Geo. III "Old Sheffield Plate" Rococo style candlesticks are finely made with crisp mounts featuring shells and floral motifs as well as magnificently applied large Acanthus Leaf mounts applied to the bottom half of the shaft of the candlesticks. The matching, original bobeches are removable and inside the nozzle, one can see a stylized "crown" motif indicating the maker's mark (not yet identified) but the recognizable attribution to Sheffield (the "crown" hallmark is the standard for identifying items made in Sheffield.) This pair is in original plate and has some very slight, but beautiful, "copper bleed" or "copper bloom" at the high spots (another tell-tale sign of the original Sheffield plate of pure sterling silver annealed or fused to a base metal of copper.) This pair of original candlesticks are in great age-appropriate condition. The images shown are indicative of their condition, but please ask for additional images if warranted. These are a terrific example of early Sheffield plated candlesticks at the height of the Georgian period.
