About the Item
A very handsome pair of mid-19th century silver plated wine bottle coasters by Elkington
Company of London, showing swelled and pierced latticework bodies rising from turned satinwood bases centred by silver plated roundels engraved with stags head Heraldic crests (possibly for the Roberts family).
The plated rims on both bases bearing makers marks for Elkington
Company, together with date marks for 1861 on one coaster and 1862 on the other.
The use of satinwood for the bases on these fine wine coasters is relatively rare, as fruitwood such as walnut was most often used, further illustrating the high level of quality that Elkington
Company are known for.
