About the Item
An exceptional 19th-century English flatware service by Carrington
Co, 130 Regent Street, London — one of the most prestigious silversmiths and jewellers of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Carrington was a Royal Warrant holder to Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, and King George V, renowned for producing silver of the highest craftsmanship and refinement.
Each piece in this service is crafted in solid sterling silver (.925), hallmarked in London, 1880, with the maker’s mark W.D.E. for William Debenham
Son.
The handles are exquisitely inlaid with mother-of-pearl panels along their entire length — a rare and technically demanding technique requiring great precision and artistry. The rounded, slightly weighted finials provide perfect balance and a wonderfully tactile feel in the hand.
This remarkable set perfectly embodies why we love antique craftsmanship — the skill, refinement and patience that no modern technique can replicate. Each piece fits precisely in its bespoke compartments within the solid wood case, which features two removable trays lined with cream velvet. Every element speaks of the outstanding quality of its maker.
Condition:
The set is in excellent condition, with only minimal wear to the exterior of the case. The silver retains its beautiful colour and shine, showing how well it has been cared for over the years.
