A finely crafted Russian silver figural table ornament, dating to the late 19th century and depicting Venus in a shell chariot drawn by a swan. This charming miniature sculpture, made of .900 silver and weighing 3.9 troy ounces, is a graceful example of Russian romanticism in precious metal.
The goddess Venus stands poised in a stylized scallop shell chariot, one arm raised to hold silver wire reins that lead to a beautifully rendered swan, its body richly textured with chased feather detailing. The scene draws on classical mythology and is evocative of the goddess's mythical birth from the sea — often shown arriving in a shell or drawn by sea creatures or birds.
Stamped with Russian silver hallmarks, including the “90” zolotnik purity mark (.900 fine silver) and the maker’s initials “CL” (Cyrillic “СЛ”), likely indicating a Moscow or St. Petersburg workshop of the Imperial era.
