This magnificent often called America's most glorious sterling silver flatware pattern, Francis I is a true work of art. Each piece's central decoration represents a different cluster of fruit and flowers, giving your table a unique and Classic presentation. This is one of the most popular silver flatware patterns of all time. Francis 1st is an American sterling silver tableware pattern, introduced in 1906, named after King Francis I of France. It was designed by Ernest Meyer, a French silversmith. His goal was to create a pattern that eclipsed the splendid Renaissance-Baroque metalwork of Benvenuto Cellini, court artist and sculptor in the court of King Francis I who ascended the French throne in 1515. It took him three years to design. The pattern is unique, given that unlike other flatware patterns it has fifteen different fruit-and flower clusters. Each handle bears one of these detailed designs. It has been claimed that the design idea came from one of the many tableware patterns of the Italian silver manufacturer Cesa 1882. Francis 1st flatware is produced by Reed Barton Silversmiths. The original back stamp featured a lion, an eagle, and the letter “R,” in about 1950 a new back stamp came into use which reads “Reed and Barton." This extensive set includes 16 dinner knives, ten steak knives, 18 fish knives, 12 dinner forks, 14 cocktail forks, 16 luncheon forks, 18 salad forks, 12 soup spoons, 12 cream shop spoons, 36 teaspoons, ten demitasse spoons, serving pieces include a large fish knife, cake knife, tomato server, six large pierced serving forks, two smaller pierced serving forks, five pierced serving spoons, five large serving spoons, smaller fork and knife carving set, larger fork and knife carving set, smaller ladle, two larger ladles, master butter spreader, olive fork, lemon fork, The measurements below are for the dinner knife.
