About the Item
We are delighted to offer this magnificent solid silver ewer/jug made in France c.1880 by Lancon, Paris.
This piece features a spectacular Rococo design and structure where the wrythen glass body is mounted with solid silver. Its base features a pedestal with layers of stippled and chased foliate motifs.
The upper half presents the most wonderfully ornate design of a fluted and wrythen neck section that leads to a fabulous scalloped shell lid and spout.
True to Rococo philosophy
design, the decoration very aptly embraces a fluid and asymmetrical design as if to capture the nature of liquids. Its handle is equally embellished with a scrolled acanthus leaf design as if to invite the viewer to take a look at it from all angles.
Owing to its versatile size, it could be used to hold any beverages of your choice, whether it be a dessert wine, cognac, spirits or perhaps even as an oil/vinegar jug.
Overall, a spectacular piece of French Rococo design silverware that would immediately elevate the splendour of an interior whether be it for display or practical usage.
French hallmarks are present on both the top and bottom sections of the silver with a Minerva mark and the maker's mark.
