About the Item
This is a fine quality Edwardian cut crystal dressing table pot, mounted with a sterling silver lid. The oval crystal body rests on a star-cut base and is exquisitely decorated with ribbed bands and star-cut roundels, lending it both sparkle and refinement. The silver lid is embossed in the folklore style, featuring the enigmatic Green Man encircled by flowers and foliage, beneath a blank scallop shell cartouche. The interior is richly gilded, enhancing its luxurious finish.
The dressing table pot was crafted by the highly esteemed silversmiths Nathan
Hayes, and assayed in Chester in 1906. George Nathan and Ridley Hayes established their partnership in Birmingham during the late 1880s. They became renowned for their finely made silver tableware—predominantly assayed in Birmingham—alongside more personal objets de vertu such as buckles, buttons, and dressing table pieces, which were chiefly assayed in Chester. Their distinguished firm remained active until around 1920.
Condition: Very good. The crystal is free from chips or cracks, while the silver lid shows only a couple of minute pinholes to the highpoints—an inevitable result of more than a century of polishing. Please refer to all photographs, which form an important part of the description.

The hallmarks, located on the outer rim of the lid, are slightly rubbed but remain legible. They display the lion passant for sterling silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the cursive date letter F for 1906, and the makers’ mark G.N over R.H for George Nathan and Ridley Hayes of Nathan
Hayes.
In a beautifully excellent condition. and will be hand-polished before dispatching.
