A magnificent, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver beer or water jug by Thomas Chawner; part of our dining silverware collection. This magnificent antique George III sterling silver beer jug has a plain baluster form onto a circular collet foot, in the classic English Georgian style. The body of this impressive jug is plain and unembellished, with an applied bead decorated border below moulded ornamentation to the rim. This impressive example of antique silverware is fitted with a cast sterling silver S scroll handle ornamented with a scrolling leaf thumbpiece and bifurcating lower terminal. The cast beak style spout is embellished with a vase-shaped moulding with a drop shaped form to the nadir; the spout is further ornamented with a continuation of applied ornamentation to the rim. This exceptional beer jug, crafted by the renowned London silversmith Thomas Chawner, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This Georgian silver beer jug is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The applied decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body are all very clear. Dimensions Length from back of handle to tip of lip 21cm/8.3" Width 12.6cm/5" Height 19.2cm/7.6". Weight 35.7 troy ounces/1110g. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver beer/water jug; part of our dining silverware collection This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver beer jug has a plain baluster form onto a circular spreading foot. The body of this impressive antique silver jug is embellished with an impressive engraved scrolling leaf bodered coat of arms depicting on a fess three five-pinted stars between three griffens' heads erased. This impressive example of Georgian silverware is fitted with a cast sterling silver S scroll handle ornamented with an impressive scrolling leaf thumbpiece and bifurcating lower scrolling terminal. The cast beak style spout of the jug is embellished with a vase-shaped moulding to the nadir. The circular spreading foot is embellished with bands of tooled decoration. Note: The London Assay Office have missing records in the Smallworkers' Register (1739-1758) and Largeworkers' Register (1758-1773), and it can be determined that this maker's mark was registered within this timeframe. However John King became free from his apprenticeship August 1757, and it can be determined there is a high probability that this maker's mark associates to him. Condition This 18th century jug...
