About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver owl mustard pot; an addition to our collectable silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has been realistically modelled in the form of an owl/owlet. This impressive antique silver owl mustard pot is embellished with decoration reproducing the details of the bird's plumage and anatomical features; the fine feature of this mustard pot is the additional flourish of the bird's three-dimensional supercilium. This fine mustard pot is fitted with a hinged cover/head, further ornamented with the original bead eyes. The cover opens to reveal an original hallmarked silver gilded liner and interior. The original antique cast silver spoon has a plain rounded form and mouse decorated terminal. The protruding beak to the cover comprises a functional thumbpiece and allows the handle terminal to sit securely to one side. Condition This antique silver owl mustard pot with mouse spoon and liner is an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of the body, in addition to part hallmarks to the cover and liner are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the excellent gauge of silver. The maker's mark has been struck deeply within the decoration and does not display sharply, but remains legible. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of antique Victorian silverware.
