About the Item

Sterling silver “Margaret” cup by Anton Michelsen, Copenhagen, 1961. The flared, lobed form is articulated by vertical panels of translucent blue enamel set between cast silver bands with foliate ornament and twisted rope dividers. The interior is fully gilded. The underside is clearly stamped A. MICHELSEN COPENHAGEN, STERLING DENMARK, together with the Danish year letter L9 for 1961 and additional control marks. The enamel surface is clean and even, with no chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Silver surfaces show only light wear consistent with careful handling. A precise, small-scale example of post-war Danish silversmithing, suitable for use or display in a focused collection of Scandinavian metalwork or enamel. Anton Michelsen was founded in 1841 in Copenhagen and became purveyor to the Danish Royal Court. Through the 20th century, the firm collaborated with leading artists and designers, producing flatware, jewellery, and presentation objects that helped define modern Danish silver before its later incorporation into Georg Jensen.
