Cartier Sterling Silver Gentleman’s Fitted Leather Vanity Case London, 1937 Maker’s Mark: J.C (Jacques-Théodule Cartier) Made in France A superb and rare Art Deco gentleman’s fitted travel vanity case by Cartier, crafted in France and retailed in London. This luxurious tan leather case is fully fitted with an array of sterling silver grooming and toiletry accessories, all marked with the London import hallmarks for 1937 and the maker’s mark J.C, for Jacques-Théodule Cartier, managing director of Cartier London, then located on New Bond Street. The case contains: Three sterling silver-mounted perfume bottles One circular sterling silver lidded box One rectangular (elongated) silver lidded box Two silver-backed clothes brushes (one large, one small) One compartment housing two original fitted keys One empty compartment with five stitched leather loops (likely for razors, scissors, or grooming tools) The fitted interior is lined in matching tan leather, with tailored recesses for each component. The exterior retains the original stitched leather handle and dual latch closures. Stamped in gold: “CARTIER – London · Paris · New York – Made in France”. One brush shows slight discolouration around the hallmark and is loose, needs to be fixes. The case exhibits edge wear and patina, with scuffing on the handle. The interior fittings remain structurally sound and clean. Original keys included.
