About the Item
American Colonial Revival sterling silver inkstand, ca 1950. Shaped oval stand with curvilinear foliate-scroll rim and four capped volute supports. Three baluster vessels for holding the basic equipment for 18th-century social and business transactions. This inkstand based on the one used for the Signing of the Declaration of Independence that was made by Philadelphia silversmith Philip Syng in 1752. Gives an aura of solemnity to personally important signings, even when parchment and ink are not involved. Marked "Sterling". Heavy total weight: 31 troy ounces.

The inkstand is composed of a shaped tray supported by 4 rocailles feet, modeled along the entire profile by finely embossed and chiselled volutes, leaves and shells.
Above the tray are two ink holders and two pen holders with spiral workmanship and highly embossed vegetable decorations.
A bell in the center of the object rests on a FASTIGIO pierced with flowering vines.
