About the Item

A stunning antique Dutch silver marriage/engagement presentation spoon with a boat finial dating from around 1900. The finely made spoon has a round shaped bowl with pierced and engraved floral and scroll patterning with two birds signifying lovers. The spoon has an ornate stem mounted with a coin or medallion mounted with a figure in a sailing boat finial. The quality of workmanship is superb and unusual, and the spoon has impressed silver marks to the inside bowl and impressed SBL which may be importers or makers marks. A very fine example and wonderful piece of craftsmanship to add to any serious collection. Many of these spoons were meant for display and were rarely used, hence the condition. Provenance: From a wonderful and choice collection of small cabinet pieces many of which we are currently offering on 1stdibs. Acquired in the UK Art Market.
