About the Item

Dutch silver Brandy bowl by Heerens, Schoonhoven, 1971 Silver brandy bowl with a lobed motif, lightly hammered and engraved. This model is based on an antique Dutch model. The bowl was made by the firm P. Heerens Zn (Son) from Schoonhoven in 1971. The brandy bowl is Dutch silver, hallmarked with the master hallmark PH half-moon, used between 1967 and 1977. The Minerva head with the letter M, Assayer's mark for Schoonhoven Lion II (Dutch silver hallmark), second fineness mark (835/1000), and date letter L for 1971. The handles have a seahorse on either side and measures 7 cm high, 14,5 cm wide and the depth is 9 cm. The weight is 95 grams A brandy bowl is a historical, often silver, bowl with two handles that was used in the Northern Netherlands (especially Friesland and Groningen) at happy occasions such as births and weddings to toast with a sip of brandy (often with "boerenjongens"—raisins in brandy). A typical old Dutch delicacy. The bowl served as a showpiece and symbol of celebration and prosperity.
