About the Item

A fine and impressive pair of antique Edwardian English sterling silver candlesticks with sporting interest; an addition to our diverse ornamental silverware collection. These fine antique Edwardian sterling silver candlesticks have plain circular, octagonal paneled form onto an oval spreading base. The cylindrical rounded capital of the antique silver candlesticks retain the original navette shaped detachable push fit sconces. The tapering octagonal paneled column of each candlestick is embellished with impressive applied fluted ornamentation accented with a band of fluted floral designs to the centre. The base is encompassed with further applied narrow fluted decoration in a graduated design. The concave incurved channel of each base bears the contemporary bright cut engraved presentation inscription 'Eltham Ladies Mixed Foursomes, Won by Mrs Mr A.C.Latter, June 1902, Presented by R. Whyte Esq'. Both candlesticks have filled bases, as to be expected and are fitted with green baize to the underside. Condition These antique silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver for their type, excellent quality and in excellent condition. There is natural fire to the surface of each candlestick, in keeping with age. The applied decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim of each base and part hallmarks to the sleeve of each sconce are all very clear.
