About the Item
Elegant large carafe made of clear glass with a conical body, glass wall vertically cut with regular jagged facets on the outside, jagged ridges rounded off by a delicate lenticular cut resembling pearl necklaces, cut bottom star, smooth silver mount with straight J-shaped handle, beak-shaped spout with straight hinged lid with ball as thumb rest.

Sons, Bremen-Hemelingen, Germany
Founded in Bremen in 1810 by goldsmith Martin Heinrich Wilkens, handicraft production and repairs, after the eldest sons Diedrich and Carl joined the company from about 1830 mint company, sales of semi-finished goods and silverware beyond Bremen, production of medals and coins on behalf of the Bremen state, from 1851, supply to world exhibitions, from 1857, steam engine to drive the presses and spinning benches, from 1859, enlargement and expansion of the company to become one of the three most important German silverware manufacturers, still a well-known supplier of high-quality silver and stainless steel tableware today

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian acid etched glass and English sterling silver mounted claret jug; an addition to our wine and drink related silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has a circular, rounded bulbous form.
The cylindrical neck of the jug is fitted with an impressive sterling silver, hallmarked mount embellished with impressive chased floral spray decoration on a matte background, all encompassed with a plain border accented with simple drop motifs.
The decoration to the mount incorporates an oval vacant cartouche to either side.
The underside of the plain spout features a simplified quatrefoil floral motif encompassed with a lozenge shaped border.
The mount retains the original hinged, hallmarked cover encompassed with further floral decoration and surmounted with an impressive pierced interlacing scrolling leaf decorated thumb piece.
The rim of the cover, lower rim of the mount and girdle to the glass body are encircled with applied bead decoration.
