Elegant large carafe made of clear glass with a conical body, glass wall vertically cut with regular jagged facets on the outside, jagged ridges rounded off by a delicate lenticular cut resembling pearl necklaces, cut bottom star, smooth silver mount with straight J-shaped handle, beak-shaped spout with straight hinged lid with ball as thumb rest. - Crescent + Crown - German official hallmark from 1888 - 800 - fineness - Screw press - Manufacture brand for M. H. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian acid etched glass and English sterling silver mounted claret jug; an addition to our wine and drink related silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has a circular, rounded bulbous form. The cylindrical neck of the jug is fitted with an impressive sterling silver, hallmarked mount embellished with impressive chased floral spray decoration on a matte background, all encompassed with a plain border accented with simple drop motifs. The decoration to the mount incorporates an oval vacant cartouche to either side. The underside of the plain spout features a simplified quatrefoil floral motif encompassed with a lozenge shaped border. The mount retains the original hinged, hallmarked cover encompassed with further floral decoration and surmounted with an impressive pierced interlacing scrolling leaf decorated thumb piece. The rim of the cover, lower rim of the mount and girdle to the glass body are encircled with applied bead decoration. This antique Victorian claret jug...
