The Salver stands on three cast hoof feet and is circular in form with a raised rim decorated with scrolls and shells, typical of the late George II period. The centre of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a cartouche of floral sprays and shells. This exceptional antique William III sterling silver porringer with cover has a plain rounded cylindrical form onto a circular spreading foot. The lower portion of the body is encircled with an exceptional band of chased alternating leaf designs. The body is further ornamented with the contemporary engraved initials 'WSM'. This cup retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover embellished with a large chased stylized leaf motif in a swirl design. The cover is surmounted by an exceptional cast leaf decorated sterling silver bud style finial. This fine silver porringer with cover is fitted with two exceptional cast and applied S-scroll handles.
