An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver lady's mug by Henry Chawner, an addition to our Georgian silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George III sterling silver mug has a plain tapering cylindrical form.
The surface of this antique silver mug is embellished with an exceptional contemporary bright cut engraved coast of arms and crest depicting a demi-stag chained and collared.
The upper and lower portions are encircled with tooled decorated borders to the rims.
This ladies antique silver mug is fitted with an impressive tooled decorated S-scroll handle.
The underside of the mug is ornamented with the contemporary engraved inscription: 'The Gift of Mrs Hourman at the age of eighty eight to her Great Grandson Edwd John Fisher, Novr 3 1790'.
This antique mug has a fine color and patination.
This impressive antique silver mug was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Henry Chawner.
Such small Georgian tankards are becoming increasingly difficult to locate; period tankards of this size would have been crafted for a lady.
Patination or Patina is a subtle coloration or tarnish which forms on the surface of some metals, produced by oxidation or other chemical processes. A good patina proffers an aesthetically pleasing look.
