About the Item
This striking mid-century silver mezuzah case, crafted by an Israeli artist circa 1950, is a stunning representation of both artistic innovation and deep spiritual significance. Marked with the initials ש.ר.ב. in Hebrew, this piece is a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of early Israeli silversmiths.
The mezuzah case is crafted from solid sterling silver (marked 925 on the lower reverse) and showcases a bold, modernist design. At the top, the Hebrew letter Shin (ש) is prominently stylized, symbolizing the divine protection of Shaddai (שדי), one of the names of God. The textured surface is adorned with raised geometric elements, including scattered square and diamond motifs, giving the piece a dynamic and tactile quality.
Adding to its artistic flair, small turquoise-hued accents are incorporated into the design, lending an organic contrast to the silver’s cool metallic sheen. The edges are framed with a rugged, hand-forged texture similar to Jerusalem stone surfaces, enhancing the case’s character and making it a striking fusion of traditional and modern aesthetics.
