About the Item

Based in Corning, NY, T.G. Hawkes Co. (c.1880-1959) was established by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes (1846-1913). Born in Ireland, Hawkes immigrated to Brooklyn in 1862, then moved to Corning, opening his own cut glass firm in 1880. His firm, T.G. Hawkes Co., soon became famous for quality wares. Hawkes' glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. Hawkes pieces can be found in museums world-wide. This vase is very different than the other Hawkes vases we have/had in that the glass is not cut and very ornate. Hawkes Crystal almost always has elaborate cut glass and acid-etched designs that are the signature of the company. This vase is very simple with only a pinstripe design on the glass. Sophisticated and elegant and a nod to the fabulous Art Deco designs of the roaring 1920’s.
