About the Item

A scent perfume bottle designed by Horton Allday. This is a superb and very rare scent perfume-bottle created in Chester England by the silversmith company of Horton Allday, back in 1890. The extraordinary scent bottle, was masterfully crafted of tear-drop form, during the Victorian and the art-nouveau period in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with polished finish. It is embellished in one side with a daffodil flower and foliage, which is hand decorated with hard glass enamel. The bottle is fitted on top with a hinged pressure lid. Horton Allday The firm was originally founded in Birmingham c. 1860 by Alfred George Horton and Harry Allday. Horton died in 1886 and the business was continued by Allday alone maintaining the name Horton Allday. The firm was active at 193 Warstone Lane, Birmingham were remained until 1931 when moved to 58 Northampton Street. The London offices were at number 6 in Arundell Street Coventry Street, Leicester Square, (1913) and 47 Poland Street, London (1913). Horton Allday entered hallmarks in Birmingham, Chester ('H A': 1894, 1895 and 1906), London ('H.A' in 1887 and 'Hn Ay' in 1897) and Sheffield ('H A': 1903) Assay Offices. The firm participated to the 1915 and 1920 editions of the British Industries Fair. Country: Chester, England. Period: Victorian-Art Nouveau, 1890-1900. Maker: Horton Allday. Hallmarks: Stamped with British marks, the mark of England and the city of Chester, the maker's mark H&A associated to Horton Allday, the mark for the assay and warranty of the .925/.999 silver and the code letter for the production date of 1890. Provenance: Christies London (South Kensington), auction 5006, 29 Nov 2006, lot-100. sold for 1,600.- British pounds, plus the buyer's premium. Collateral: This scent bottle by Horton Allday is presented in a jewelry pouch. Condition: The overall condition of this scent bottle by Horton Allday is excellent. Besides the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. All parts are secured in the settings. This piece was carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
