About the Item
This very substantial tankard styled lidded ice bucket is made with solid sterling silver and dates to 1875 to Victorian England. The maker's mark is partially obscured, but there is Queen Victoria's duty mark and the last two letters appear to be 'E.H'. This sterling ice tankard is extremely and very intricately decorated with heavy repousse and chased metal work in a floral swag motif with a centralized engraved cameo. The feet and finial are all done in figural British seated lions. The handle has a very decorative and detailed depiction of a man's face. The inside has been gilt washed and this tankard is clearly hallmarked on both the body and the rim of the lid.
