About the Item

Elegant and sculptural sterling silver necklace designed by Antonio Castillo for the renowned Los Castillo workshop in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico, circa 1950s. This exquisite piece features a series of interlocking leaf-form links, each beautifully contoured and hand-engraved with delicate veins, creating a rhythmic, organic flow around the neckline. The necklace is fully signed Los Castillo, Taxco, Sterling, Made in Mexico, 329, and measures 15.5 inches in length x ⅝ inch in width. Antonio Castillo was one of the most influential figures in the Mexican silversmith movement, having trained under William Spratling, the pioneer of modern Mexican silver design. Together with his wife and brothers, he established Los Castillo, a workshop that became synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship, innovative design, and a deep respect for pre-Columbian and natural motifs. Today, Antonio’s legacy continues through his daughter, Emilia Castillo, whose works reinterpret her father’s creative vision in silver, ceramic, and mixed media. A timeless example of mid-century Mexican artistry, this necklace captures both the refinement and vitality that define the Taxco modernist tradition—an ideal piece for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.
