About the Item

A Napoleon III boxed set of twelve coffee spoons. This is a fantastic unused set of twelve coffee spoons created in Paris France during the Napoleon III period, back in 1860. The spoons are masterfully crafted in solid .800/.999 silver standard and hand embellished with floriated engravings. The spoons are presented in the original fitted box, which is crafted in ebonized wood with inlaid decorations of gilded bronze and natural white nacre. The box is inscribed on top of the lid, with the Spanish word CAFE, which means Coffee. This detail suggest that these spoons were specially commissioned and to be exported to Spain or South America. The Napoleon III Style The Second French Empire, also known as the era of Napoleon III (1852-1870), was a period of significant change in the world of design. Under the patronage of Napoleon III and his wife Empress Eugenie (1826-1920), the decorative arts flourished. Paris was transformed into a vibrant artistic center, leading Europe in the development of new styles and techniques. The imperial couple were avid patrons of the arts, and their personal tastes had a profound influence on the styles of this era. The design style of the period has long been characterized by a mixture of opulence, grandeur, and historicity, often portrayed as an era of decorative revival. Elements of Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and in particular Neo-Classical design history can be seen as having a profound influence on the art and architecture of the time. Yet, the period is also marked by significant technological and industrial advancements, which sparked innovations in design that adapted typical furniture to the rapidly modernizing world. Let’s dive into the gilded world of 19th century antiques, to judge whether the decorative arts of this period were elegant historical revivals, or ingenious design innovations. Christofle Art Nouveau Silver Spoons, French Sterling Silver Spoons Set of 12
Located in Miami, FL
A very fine quality set of 12 antique sterling silver tea, coffee or dessert spoons attributed to Christofle, circa 1890-1930. Stunning design and craftsmanship. The handles have sophisticated Art Nouveau Pattern different decor, flowers, vine leaves, bunch of grapes, foliage, decor dahlias. The mark “925” on the bowl confirms that it’s sterling silver (.925 purity). The handle shows ornate floral and foliate engraving, typical of early 20th-century American or European silver flatware. The pattern style — squared edges with raised floral decoration — closely resembles Art Nouveau to early Art Deco transitional designs (roughly 1890s–1930s). The spoon shape (slightly deep oval bowl, short handle relative to bowl size) suggests a bouillon or cream soup spoon, not a teaspoon. Presented in its original box by Prestigious silversmith: A La Gerbe...
