About the Item

A fine and sophisticated pair of antique French high grade silver mounted cut glass claret jugs / decanters by renowned French silversmith Gustave Keller, Paris, circa 1900. The design of this pair of decanters through its simple lines and simplicity shows a departure from previous styles favored at the time, such as heavily ornate rococo, and enhances the very high quality of the craftmanship. Both decanters have French Mercury 1 export silver hallmarks for high grade silver (.950/1000), and maker's mark for Gustave Keller as well as " G. Keller" inscribed on the neck. Gold wash interior. Monogrammed "MM" on top of the spout. These decanters are in very good age-appropriate condition with minimal signs of wear, such as light surface scratches. NOTE: Gustave Keller (1856–ca. 1947) was a prominent Parisian jeweler and silversmith known for high-end decorative arts, silverware, and jewelry. Founded in 1856, the firm Gustave Keller Frères specialized in elegant objects d'art for the upper class, gaining international acclaim and becoming the official supplier to several European royal courts, including those of Russia, Greece, Romania, and Spain. Gustave Keller was renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, often blending precious metals like gold and silver with high-quality gemstones and intricate enamelwork. Keller produced a wide range of silver items, including serving trays, tea and coffee sets, wine coolers, and monumental ewers and basins. Many pieces featured Art Nouveau or Art Deco styles.
