About the Item
This exquisite pair of serving utensils, consisting of a fork and a spoon, is crafted in solid silver and weighs 159 grams. Both pieces bear the Minerva hallmark, a symbol of exceptional French craftsmanship, along with the distinct silversmith’s mark "JG" and a vine shoot motif, representing the renowned Parisian master silversmith Jean Granvigne.
Active from 1838 to 1889, Jean Granvigne was one of the most prominent silversmiths in Paris at the time. His work, known for its intricate designs and superior quality, was so highly regarded that prestigious firms like Odiot frequently subcontracted production to his workshops. The Granvigne ateliers, located at 4 Rue Béranger in Paris, remained operational until 1910, when they were taken over by Tétard.
The rich and finely crafted work of Jean Granvigne stands as a testament to the golden age of French silversmithing. This pair of serving utensils, with their delicate details and timeless elegance, not only represents the highest standards of craftsmanship but also serves as a beautiful example of the artisanal legacy that defines the finest French dining traditions.
