About the Item

This elegant matched pair of sterling silver vases/baskets was crafted by the Webster Company, a well-known American silver manufacturer active from the late 19th through mid-20th century. Distinguished by their tall, graceful silhouettes and functional folding handles, these pieces combine decorative refinement with practical versatility. Overall Shape Each piece is shaped as an elongated trumpet-form vase that flares outward at the top and tapers into a narrow, elegant stem. The upper section transitions smoothly into a broad, oval mouth, giving the baskets a fluid, organic profile. Opening Dimensions Larger basket: • Oval opening approx. 6.5 in × 4 in • Height with handle raised: 16 in Smaller basket: • Oval opening approx. 5 in × 3.5 in • Height with handle raised: 13 in Handle Design Each piece features a swinging, folding handle with a graceful double-arched form. Handles pivot smoothly, allowing them to be raised for display or lowered completely for compact storage. The handle attachments are decorated with delicate scroll accents, adding a touch of refinement where the hardware meets the body of the vase. Rim Body Decoration The rim has a gently scalloped, undulating contour, giving the opening a soft, decorative flourish. The body displays subtle panels and contours that catch light beautifully, emphasizing the reflective quality of the sterling silver. The surface is highly polished and mirror-bright, typical of Webster’s clean and elegant aesthetic. Base Each rests on a scalloped circular base, echoing the scalloped rim and tying the design together. The bases flare outward slightly, providing visual balance to the tall, slender stems. Style Craftsmanship The form reflects early 20th-century American silver style—balanced, refined, and lightly ornamented, allowing the shape and craftsmanship to take center stage. Their tall, narrow lines and polished surfaces make them suitable for: Floral arrangements Table centerpieces Decorative display Wedding or formal service settings
