An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver beer/water jug; part of our dining silverware collection
This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver beer jug has a plain baluster form onto a circular spreading foot.
The body of this impressive antique silver jug is embellished with an impressive engraved scrolling leaf bodered coat of arms depicting on a fess three five-pinted stars between three griffens' heads erased.
This impressive example of Georgian silverware is fitted with a cast sterling silver S scroll handle ornamented with an impressive scrolling leaf thumbpiece and bifurcating lower scrolling terminal.
The cast beak style spout of the jug is embellished with a vase-shaped moulding to the nadir.
The circular spreading foot is embellished with bands of tooled decoration.
Note: The London Assay Office have missing records in the Smallworkers' Register (1739-1758) and Largeworkers' Register (1758-1773), and it can be determined that this maker's mark was registered within this timeframe. However John King became free from his apprenticeship August 1757, and it can be determined there is a high probability that this maker's mark associates to him.

English sterling silver cup from 1760 in Georgian style by a London-based silversmith. It comes from the collection of W. Allston Flagg. It measures 4'' in diameter by 2 1/2'' in height, weighs 4.9 ozt, and bears hallmarks as shown.
According to his 1971 obituary from the New York Times, "W. Allston Flagg, an investment banker and former governor of the New York Stock Exchange, was a collateral descendant, and namesake of Washington Allston, the early 19th-century American painter. His studies at Harvard were interrupted by Navy service in World War I as a submarine chaser commander. He returned to active duty as a lieutenant commander in World War II.
Mr. Flagg succeeded his father, Washington A. Flagg, as a partner in the brokerage firm of Post & Flagg and continued as a partner in Harris, Upham & Co. after their merger. He was a past president of the Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley...

An exceptional, fine and impressive set of twelve antique Georgian sterling silver Hanoverian pattern table forks; an addition to our Georgian flatware collections.
These exceptional antique Georgian straight* sterling silver forks have been crafted in the Hanoverian pattern with three tines.
The posterior surface of each antique silver fork handle terminal incorporates the bright cut engraved crest of out of a coronet a griffin's head, all above the monogram initial 'W'.
The anterior surface of each 18th century fork is plain with a pip to the handle terminal.
Such straight examples of antique silver forks with clearly struck hallmarks are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
* 'Straight' means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.
Condition
These antique sterling silver forks are an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each handle stem are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silver flatware...

Each coaster is embellished with a band of pierced and pin struck decoration to the upper portion and plain pin struck borders to each panel.
The decoration to the body of each piece incorporates a pin struck bordered shaped cartouche displaying a contemporary bright cut engraved crest.
The coasters are fitted with fine and impressive turned mahogany bases.

The body of this impressive basket consists of wirework pales accented to the interior surface with applied and embossed fruiting vine ornamentation and grape clusters.
The rim of the basket is encompassed with a plain applied undulating border.
This Georgian basket is fitted with a fine and impressive swing handle, embellished with barley twist terminals incorporating a central handpiece ornamented with further applied fruiting vine decoration.
The anterior portion of the rounded base is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of between wings two hands clasped together in a handshake.
The concaved central well of the basket is plain and unembellished.
This impressive basket retains an original invoice from the prior purchase in 1968; the calculation of historical inflation is the equivalent of £3,443.66.
